VOTE YES FOR THE 7TH FIRE DISTRICT MILLAGE RENEWAL ON MAY 1, 2010

On May 1, 2010, the fire departments of the 7th
district of Jefferson Parish will once again ask for your vote and
support. The 7th fire
district is made up of the Avondale Volunteer Fire Co. #1, Bridge City
Volunteer Fire Co. #1, Herbert Wallace Memorial Volunteer Fire Co., Live Oak
Manor Volunteer Fire Co. #1 and Nine
Mile Point Volunteer Fire Co. #1.
These five departments cover the area from the City of Westwego line
westward to the Jefferson / St. Charles Parish line.

 All the fire
departments in the 7th district have a combination of paid and
volunteer personnel. The paid personnel
are on duty for 24 hours a day and respond the emergency equipment to the scene
of the emergency, whether it is a fire, medical call or any other type of
assistance call. The dedicated
volunteers we have respond to the same emergency calls in their personal
vehicles and receive no compensation from the department for the job they do.

 At this time we
would like to ask you for your support and “VOTE YES” to “RE-NEW” our 25 mills
fire service tax. This is not a
new tax, but a renewal of an existing tax.
If you are now tax exempt, you will still, pay nothing. The tax monies collected are used to pay the
salaries and benefits to our paid employees, maintain the fire equipment and
fire stations, continue training of firefighting personnel and to purchase and
maintain equipment for the firefighters.

 The State of
Louisiana insurance rates are based on your fire department’s rating. Right now your fire insurance rating is a
class 3, which means you pay a lower rate for fire insurance on your property
and business. The lower the number, the
better the protection and the lower your insurance cost will be. The rating scale is from (1) one with lower
rates, to (10) ten with higher rates. As
you can see, you are on the lower end of the scale. With your ‘YES” vote and continued
support on May 1, 2010, you will have the security in knowing that you did your
part to insure that your fire department will continue operating to its highest
capability.

At this time the 7th fire
district fire departments would like to thank you for all the support you have
shown throughout the years that we’ve had the pleasure of serving you. If you have any questions or concerns about
this election to “RE-NEW” our 25 mills, please feel free to contact your
local fire department. We are here for
you!!!
